Platforms and Protocols
Arconomy connects to your broker through the trading platform's API. The platform you use determines the protocol through which Arconomy sends and manages orders. Here is a summary of each supported platform.
MetaTrader 4 (MT4)
MetaTrader 4 is the most widely used retail forex trading platform in the world. Arconomy connects to MT4 through the Manager API, enabling full order management, position monitoring, and real-time price streaming. MT4 is ideal for forex and CFD trading and is supported by all six of our integrated brokers.
MetaTrader 5 (MT5)
MetaTrader 5 is the successor to MT4, offering improved order execution, additional order types (including buy stop limit and sell stop limit), access to a broader range of asset classes, and enhanced backtesting capabilities within the platform itself. Arconomy connects to MT5 through its Manager API with the same reliability as MT4.
cTrader
cTrader is an advanced trading platform known for its clean interface, level-II market depth, and sophisticated order types. Arconomy connects to cTrader via the Open API protocol, which provides a modern, event-driven connection for real-time trade management. cTrader is available through FXPro, Pepperstone, and IC Markets.
API Connectivity
Regardless of which platform you use, Arconomy maintains a persistent connection to your broker account. This connection handles order placement, modification, and cancellation; real-time position and balance updates; trade confirmation and execution reporting; and connection health monitoring with automatic reconnection.
The platform you select when opening your broker account determines how Arconomy connects. If your broker supports multiple platforms, you can have separate accounts on different platforms and connect them all to Arconomy. See Managing Multiple Accounts for details.

Choosing the Right Broker
When selecting a broker for use with Arconomy, consider the following factors:
- Instruments: Make sure the broker offers the specific instruments your strategy targets. If you trade niche pairs or exotic indices, verify they are available on your chosen broker and account type.
- Spreads and commissions: For high-frequency strategies or strategies with small profit targets, transaction costs can significantly impact performance. Compare the raw spread and commission structure across brokers.
- Execution speed: Low-latency execution matters for strategies that depend on precise entry timing. Brokers with data centres close to your target market tend to offer faster execution.
- Regulation: Choose a broker regulated by a reputable financial authority. All brokers listed above are regulated by at least one major regulatory body.
- Platform preference: If you have a preference for cTrader, ensure your broker supports it. Otherwise, MT4 and MT5 are available across all integrations.
- Minimum deposit: If you are testing with smaller capital, consider brokers with low or no minimum deposit requirements like Fusion Markets.
